Did you know that It’s National Rice Krispie Treats Day?
When I sat down to write this post, I was debating between giving you my Roasted Tomato Soup recipe or showing you the thisclosetobeingdone garage progression photos. However, I noticed this post in my drafts folder, put there by yours truly weeks ago, knowing that I would forget about it.
I know myself so well.
So instead of either of those things, I find myself sitting here 1) wishing I’d not forgotten and had had the foresight to make and therefore eat Rice Krispie Treats and 2) digging into my old posts to find and give you the best Rice Krispie Treats recipes I could find.
Since they are my favorite dessert, I’ve made them quite often, but I haven’t done anything nearly as exciting as some people.
A Rice Kripspie watermelon log? Genius for several reasons, not the least of which is FROSTING. (This is actually fondant which is easier to shape and use but tastes like crap, so me? I’d use green food coloring and real frosting.)
People can get nuts with their RKTs, and I’m not just talking about shaping it into a log, adding some food coloring and coating it in fondant. Not that that isn’t nuts too, but there are many examples…well, you’ll see.
(Me. I’m a candy corn lover. I even have socks with candy corn on them.)
For the next football party you go to, whip up some football shaped RKTs and you’ll be a SuperFan.
Getting married but don’t want to splurge on a cake? Make a tiered RKT wedding cake!
How about a whole Easter SCENE? A Chocolate RKT Easter basket!!
Maybe you’re craving savory food but you also want dessert? Why not combine them?!
BONUS: You might get some poor sucker to accidentally eat the Burger RKT and not know. Not likely, you say? BBQs are awash with beer. Where there’s beer, there are drunk people. Drunk people are not so smart. Get it?
I’m just saying stranger things have happened is all.
Or maybe you are craving savory, but of the Asian variety. You could do a lot worse than to make RKT Nigiri.
Now, to be honest with you, I’m sort of a purist when it comes to RKTs. As much fun it is to look at all these ideas and muse about the funnythings and shapes and add ins, I still prefer just the straight up plain Jane RKT with marshmallows, butter, and RKs.
In a pan. Cut in squares.
Because I’m a square.
Sometimes, however, I do get an urge to try to be fancy. Sometimes I’ll use Erewhon Cocoa Krispie Brown Rice Cereal and add homemade strawberry jam that I have in excess after picking 21 pounds.
When those rare times occur, I will undoubtedly also add sprinkles. Obviously.
Do you like Rice Krispie Treats? What’s your favorite add-in or fun shape?
