This is going to be a whole lot of random here, kids. Random pictures and links mostly, because I am feeling uninspired, unwitty (non witty? witless? NOT FUNNY, is what I mean), and not very verbose.
This happens so rarely with me (the not verbose part, that is) that I think I might be coming down with something.
Or I just have a case of the Mondays….on Friday.
Or maybe it is because the Packers have bye week, so I don’t have that Sunday stress-fest (aka football game) to look forward to.
I made this fabric covered mousepad earlier this week with some fabric leftover from a pair of pj pants I made for a colleague. I have a couple of them, which I am thinking will make great Christmas presents.
Which reminds me, I have been updating my Today I Made page even though I haven’t been posting them here. The updates here take a really long time to write, and honestly? I just don’t have the time to post things twice. However, I do beseech you to click over and check out what I’ve been making.
I only invoked one rule this time – the Vacation Clause: the clause that says that I don’t have to make a DAMN THING BECAUSE IT IS VACATION AND VACATION IS NOT A TIME TO MAKE STUFF BUT A TIME TO LIE AROUND AND BE LAZY.
Or, you know….walk a half marathon. Whatever.
But back to the Today I Made stuff. You should look at that page. You’ll miss out on a lot if you don’t look. (Yes, I’m appealing to your FOMO right now.)
Like cookies and crafts, believe it or not.
These cookies, in fact.
Pumpkin Spice Cookies. Pumpkin (actually winter squash), coconut oil, hella spices, molasses, and a little bit of love made a whole lot of heaven.
I ate half the batch in one day. No joke. I can’t be trusted around cookies, I tell you what. Want that recipe?
Speaking of the Packers, my new kicks which are really Brazil soccer shoes but no one needs to know that, came on Tuesday and I have worn them every day to work. I love that I have a job that I can wear these kinds of shoes to.
I don’t love that I have to use my weekend time to devote to that job though. I have a whole lot of grading, working, exam-writing, poster-making, and lecture-planning to do.
And gardening! If the weather stays nice.
Yes, the garden is still going. Not strong, but going. Mostly I’m just getting some cucumber and eggplant stragglers and LOTS of tomatoes (finally.)
That is over 5 pounds of tomatoes right there, all from one single day. That big cluster is all packed together was growing so close I could just pick one and it was so heavy that the poor stem it was growing from was hanging on for dear life. So….I picked em all.
Speaking of gardens, even though it is really cold outside lately (though I should admit that it was in the 70s yesterday afternoon), my fall flowers are blooming!
Remember when I planted those gladiola bulbs way back in the summer? I wasn’t expecting any blooms this year, but to my surprise, they all germinated and three stalks flowered!
I had no idea what colors to expect, since they just came in a big mixed bag, but I’m pretty happy with the bright yellow and especially happy with the orange and yellow combo. I hope the others that will bloom next year are more of the orange variety.
I had to cut the stalk and bring it inside for a little bit of fresh flower table loving.
I’ve also got a lot more giant geraniums in that same front bed, and Black-eyed Susans pretty much growing like weeds every where you look in my yard.
We’re talking spilling over the sidewalks and blocking gates and poking out through the fences. They grow fast, those little guys.
So do these….whatever they ares.
I don’t know….some kind of purple aster maybe? They are big and bushy and I’ve got them all over the place.
So its fall here, which means that I’m making fall flavored cookies, but the flowers are blooming and gardening is still doing its garden thing. But, the sun can’t fool me, no matter how warm it is during the day. The sun still sets by 6:30 or 7 these days.
So, no more sitting outside all night long reading for me anymore.
Which is too bad since I just got Doctor Sleep , the new Steven King novel and sequel to The Shining (aka the only book that scared me so much I couldn’t read it when it was dark outside or I was alone in the house) from the library!
So, bad weather this weekend might keep me from my gardening chores, but the consolation prize is lots of reading.
And…oh yeah. Working. Damnit.
What are your weekend plans? Is your garden still growing? Did you plant any fall flowers?
