Hi. I’m Katie.
I am a professor of biology at a small liberal arts college. I teach because I love to share what I know (or think I know) with anyone and everyone who is willing to listen.
I obviously don’t take myself too seriously.
In my free time (ha!) I can be found in one of my two favorite rooms – my kitchen or my craft room.
I believe that a life without cookies is not a life worth living. While the scientist in me knows that too much sugar is not good for me, the realist in me knows that depriving myself of cookies is not good for those around me. By making my own cookies, I not only control what goes into the cookies, but I also get to exercise my creativity. Which is not something we scientists are known for.

Unfortunately, man cannot survive on cookies alone. (Although, if you know of any real research that proves otherwise, please do let me know about it.) So I also eat veggies. A lot of veggies. It balances out my cookie consumption. Or so I like to think.
The other room that I like to spend time in is my craft room. I love to make things, but I don’t stick to any one craft medium. My first loves are sewing and knitting. And when it comes to fabric and yarn, you can never have enough on hand. My stash is where I find my inspiration.

I’m also an instant gratification kind of girl and I have a very limited amount of free time, so fast and easy are how things are done around here. That goes for cooking, baking, and crafting.
Because you shouldn’t have to wait to enjoy the fruits of your labor.

I also tend towards the anal side and I like schedules. So, to keep my sanity and hopefully yours, I’m going to try to follow a posting schedule. (I said try. I like schedules, I’m just not always the best at following them.)
- Mondays will be devoted to sweet recipes (probably a cookie, but I may sneak a muffin or a cupcake in there to throw you off.)
- Wednesdays I’ll post a crafty project.
- Fridays will be a grab bag. You might get a savory recipe, you might get another sweet. You may even get a second craft project. It’s my way of making your Friday morning even more exciting. Who doesn’t love a surprise?
There’s something for everyone at Cookies and Crafts!
